Choosing a Middle School

March 9, 2017

Choosing a Middle School is a monumental task. I should know, I've done it twice, and both times it was life altering.  Don't get me wrong, I know that this decision is NOT life changing for most people, but it can be very difficult and unsettling. How do you know for sure, that the school you have chosen is the right fit for your child?

Our Approach to learning:

Inspire Academy’s mission is to transform education. We are not just preparing our students for their future, we are teaching them how to be active participants of society today. The job is two-fold; students will learn to see themselves as active members of their community and society right now, and they will also learn how to prepare for their future.

We don’t know exactly which careers will be in demand in the future, but we do know the skills that are crucial to our students’ success in those careers and in life. The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) released a policy paper listing a new set of “21st century literacies”. Among other things, it said,” 21st- century readers and writers need to: build relationships with others to pose and solve problems collaboratively and cross-culturally.”  Inspire Academy teaches students how to build relationships, work collaboratively, solve real-world problems, and share their knowledge with the community at large.

Inspire provides the "space" for both teachers and students to become creative and innovative. We believe that when learning is relevant, and students have choice and control, they become more invested, engaged, and empowered. Our school culture encourages students to become open minded, critical thinkers while developing their own interests while solving real-world problems.

The picture below, from the book, "The Innovator's Mindset" depicts our approach to learning:

At Inspire, learning is personal, it's about creating, and deeply exploring your passions and interests. We believe that every student can master the most challenging subject, and when they don't it's on us (teachers) to figure out how to make it happen. Our small environment enables us to focus our attention on each students individual needs. We have the time and the space to ensure each student is successful.

Inspire sees everyone as a teacher and everyone as a learner. This is something truly unique and is not something you encounter in most schools today.
